Our Firm
About Stone Chase
In a crowded field of financial advisors, wealth managers, and investment firms, Stone Chase offers a distinct combination of personal partnership, sophisticated planning, and long-term perspective.
Our firm is built on the belief that financial planning is about more than managing assets. It is about helping people navigate the decisions, opportunities, and transitions that shape their lives, their families, and their future.
Our Story
Local Roots
Stone Chase Financial takes its name from the street in Northern Virginia where our founder Mitch Mahoney grew up. It reflects the principles he learned there that guide our firm today: hard work, family and responsibility.
Beyond financial outcomes, we help our clients think more intentionally about how their resources can support the life they want to live, the people they care about, and the communities they are part of.
While our roots are in Northern Virginia, our client relationships extend across the country. Our virtual approach allows us to stay connected as clients move, retire or enter new chapters of life, and to work with family members and referrals who may live in other states. Wherever our clients are, we bring the same personal attention, thoughtful guidance and commitment to the relationship.
Meet Mitch
Early in Mitch’s life, he saw firsthand how important good financial guidance can be. Those experiences shaped the way he thought about money, planning, and the responsibility that comes with helping people make decisions that can affect their families for generations. He decided he wanted to be the person people could turn to for clear, thoughtful guidance.
Mitch went on to study finance at Virginia Tech and complete its CFP Board Registered Financial Planning Program. A decade later, he opened his own doors with a simple goal: provide families with comprehensive, personal guidance built around the life they actually want to live.
Today, Mitch’s work is centered on conversations. He gets to know what clients want most, develops a plan to help them get there, and stays involved as life changes. He sees his role as a financial steward — someone families can turn to when they need to make, understand, or simply talk through a financial decision. Investments are part of that relationship, but they are only one piece of the bigger picture.
What motivates him most is seeing a plan change how someone lives. One recently retired client told Mitch that every day now feels like Saturday. For him, that comes close to the whole point: helping families feel confident about their finances so they can spend less time worrying about money and more time enjoying what they’ve built.
A Northern Virginia native from Centreville, Mitch lives in Leesburg with his wife and two children. Outside the office, he is a self-described playground connoisseur, enjoys golf, follows basketball, and rarely turns down a country music concert. He remains active in the Loudoun community through the Chamber of Commerce, Business Networking International, and local charitable organizations.
His work has earned three Best of Ashburn awards (2024-2026) and a Loudoun County 40 Under 40 honor, which he is now proud to sponsor each year.

Meet Beth
Beth Dodson is the Client Services Associate at Stone Chase Financial.
Years spent as an administrative coordinator in demanding fields like healthcare and government showed Beth a talent for building order out of tangled systems, though she kept finding herself drawn to the numbers running beneath them rather than the logistics around them. With an associate degree in accounting already earned, she decided to put it to direct use, stepping out from behind the operational scenes to help people work through their finances instead.
As the primary point of contact for the families the firm serves, Beth is the operational link connecting clients, advisors, and the custodians who hold their accounts. She manages the day-to-day account operations, processes transactions, and keeps the details in order across the whole client relationship, which frees the advisory side to focus on shaping each family's plan. Proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented by her own description, she is the one who looks two steps ahead and heads off the small operational snags before they ever reach a client's desk.
The parts of the work that energize her are the ones where scattered details finally line up, whether that means creating order out of financial disarray, building relationships that hold for years, or helping families plan for the generations coming after them. She takes real satisfaction in turning financial uncertainty into clarity and steadiness for the people she serves, and in putting her operational strengths toward helping the firm grow into a thriving independent practice.
Beth grew up in Calvert County, Maryland, along the fossil-strewn cliffs of the Chesapeake Bay, and now lives in Bunker Hill, West Virginia, the site of the state's first permanent settlement. Family sits at the center of her life, from her husband, Ralph, to their three children, eight grandchildren, two playful Chihuahuas, and two cats. Much of her time outside the office goes to faith and service, from her role as Secretary on her Church Council to sewing supplies and handmade goods for mission work and helping organize Hancock Helping Hands, which delivers care packages and meals to hundreds of tri-state families each year. When she is not volunteering, she is often out for a ride on her motorcycle, and she carries a memorable piece of family history, tracing her line back to a passenger on the Mayflower.

What Drives Us
Financial Decisions are human decisions
Our Why
Mitch understood early how much the right financial decisions can shape the course of a person’s life, and that understanding led to a career focused on helping people make better choices with their money.
Today, Stone Chase helps clients use their resources intentionally, feel more confident in the choices in front of them and support both the life they want to live now and the legacy they hope to leave.
Our Approach
We believe good advice starts with understanding the full picture and the responsibility that comes with being trusted to guide important financial decisions.
Our approach is grounded in honest perspective, thoughtful guidance and long-term relationships. We bring our full expertise, attention and care to every client relationship, with a commitment to giving clients advice they can understand, trust and act on.
Our Commitment
Continuity matters in a financial relationship. The advisor who understands your history, your priorities and the decisions behind your plan can provide a level of perspective that is difficult to replace.
Mitch founded Stone Chase to build relationships that can last for decades, not just years. For clients and families looking for a long-term partner, that continuity is an important part of what we offer.
We Work for you
Being an independent advisor gives us the freedom to put your goals—not a corporate agenda—at the center of every recommendation. It means greater flexibility, a more personalized approach, and advice built around what matters most to you.

• Advice provided in the client’s best interest
• Personalized recommendations based on each client’s needs and goals
Our Network is Your Network
Financial decisions often extend beyond the work of your advisor. Over the years, Stone Chase has built strong relationships with professionals throughout the community who can help support the broader needs of our clients.
When appropriate, we can connect you with estate planning attorneys, CPAs, real estate professionals, mortgage and lending specialists, insurance professionals, movers and other trusted resources. These relationships allow us to help you find the right expertise when you need it and, where helpful, coordinate across the professionals involved in your financial life.
The goal is simple: to make it easier to move important decisions forward with the right people around the table.
